Apple Shares Major Updates at WWDC 2016
Like all annual conferences for major software and hardware companies around the world, Apple's WWDC is both a time and a moment when the company steps out on stage to let the world know what they have in store for its product lineup for the year leading up to the next announcement.
This year at WWDC 2016, Apple's focus on change and improvement was decidedly centered on enhancing the user experience across the board for iOS devices, Mac computers, and the Apple Watch.
First, there’s iOS 10, Apple's next major software update for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. iOS 10 introduced several new features, chief among which being enhancements to the lock screen, in the form of a Raise to Wake function, which allows the lock screen to display important notifications thatyou receive as you bring it up to your line of sight. Additionally, iOS 10 also introduces touch-enabled home screen widgets, which when activated by pressing down on them, reveal Quick Action shortcuts pertaining to the function of the app itself.
Siri has also been revamped, with the voice-activated assistant now opened to third-party apps for developers to go beyond its current iteration of voice-totext messaging and calendar snooping. And then there's macOS Sierra, the major revision to Apple's long-running OS X operating system. The name itself is a return to the original name that the first Macintosh computers used, and a way for Apple to bring the OS naming in line with its other operating systems. macOS Sierra is probably the OS that gets some of the more nifty features, and as before, at the top of the list, is the integration of Siri into the macOS.
To keep a very long story short: if you've used Siri on your iOS device, then you will be very familiar with Siri on macOS.
