“I had never entered Ensemble until their 30th-anniversary party,” says Payal Singhal. Her label is one of the multi-designer boutique’s more popular choices, having been stocked there for five years. Now, as it turns 20, she is revelling in the fact that she’s done her best to not be influenced by the work of other designers. “Whether you like it or not, you might not even remember when or where you saw it [but you do get influenced],” says Singhal.
Singhal’s signature prints are as individualistic as they’re recognizable. Her aesthetic usually includes Rajasthani block prints and toile-like patterns rendered across a wide range of soft, pastel tones and vibrant neon fabrics. Her cuts are always comfortable and flattering, with easy flowing capes, asymmetrical hems, and drop-crotch trousers.
