Burano ITALY

Known for their love of colour, Italy is home to one of the cheeriest islands in the world – with flowers growing in window boxes and small boats docked along the canal. Located on the same lagoon as Venice, it’s said that fishermen used to paint their houses in bright shades to make them easily identifiable when they’re out at sea. Burano is also widely renowned for intricate lacework, putting it on the map come the 16th century – one piece can take up to three months to complete! Be sure to check the labels though, as many stores sell China-made and machine-produced works – we adore Dalla Lidia Merletti d'Arte for authentic pieces. For a sumptuous lunch, swing by Trattoria al Gatto Nero and feast on the freshest and sweetest offerings of the sea!

Juzcar SPAIN

There’s no such thing as Monday blues here in this once-white town of Júzcar in Andalusia. Painted blue as a marketing gimmick for The Smurfs, your little ones will squeal in excitement as they pick up movie references dotted all over. Come autumn, you’ll find mushrooms popping up in this picturesque area. The best time to visit would be the third week of August, as the streets come alive with festivities in honour of the Virgin of Moclón. For hearty Spanish fare, take a quick break at Restaurante La Bodega del Bandolero and try their lip-smacking desserts.
