Enter the Louis Vuitton Go-14 bag, a new addition created as an homage to one of Nicolas Ghesquiere's first designs for the French fashion house. Go-14 (or Ghesquiere October 2014) alludes to the date it first appeared on the runway for his debut as artistic director for women's collections at Louis Vuitton. It is now re-emerging in 2023 in full spirit with a unique characteristic: the malletage.
Inspired by the inside texture of trunks, the crisscross pattern, or malletage, was invented to safeguard the precious cargo that the privileged few would take on their long journey. It is a fitting inspiration for a fashion house proud of its travel heritage, and the malletage is significant in representing the brand's past, present and future.
Nicolas Ghesquiere found this Louis Vuitton innovation and featured it in his first collection, revealing the true meaning of invisible luxury. "There are some universal codes that exist solely in Louis Vuitton. It was about reappropriating and transposing them into a new setting," he explains.
