Rachel Wong started blogging about her everyday musings and outfits in 2010, and made the transition to being a full-time digital content creator on Instagram in 2012. The 30-year-old, who majored in fashion communication at Lasalle College of the Arts, now has close to 200K followers on Instagram.
At first, her friends and family were puzzled about her career choice. "They often wondered if I was making enough money to eat," she says. "Now, they always tell me they’re so proud of me, [and] how lucky I am!"
While she started off working with high street brands in her earlier years, she now counts luxury fashion houses, such as Prada, Ferragamo and Louis Vuitton, among her roster of clients. One of her most memorable fashion campaigns was the H&M x Moschino collaboration in 2018.
"I was working on the launch in New York, and that was the point in my career where I was like, ‘Okay, I’m doing something right.’ I attended the fashion show, and the experience felt surreal to me. I couldn’t believe it," she shares.
When asked to describe her decade-long journey, Rachel says: "This job constantly surprises me, especially when a brand I only dreamt about working with pops up with a campaign."
Recently, she was in Seoul for the launch of Calvin Klein’s capsule collection with Blackpink’s Jennie, and woke up to a host of comments from the brand’s Instagram account on her posts about the event. "I don’t think there’s a better way to start my day! I feel so lucky, so grateful, to do all of this for real," she says.
