Uni love…
I met Amanda about four years ago. We were Nanyang Technological University undergrads on our hall’s event committee. I was quite smitten, but didn’t have the courage to approach her. Then she heard me playing the guitar at a gathering and joined me in a song. Afterwards, we couldn’t stop talking. Barely months into our friendship, Amanda left for an overseas exchange programme, and we found creative ways to communicate despite the distance and time difference. On hindsight, the time apart was a blessing as it allowed us to lay a solid foundation for our relationship.
3 things I love about her…
She is one of the hardest-working people I know. Amanda has a warmth and beauty about her character that is endearing and makes everyone she meets feel super comfortable around her. She is very intelligent and perceptive, and able to glean insights others often miss or don’t notice.
She’s the one because…
We complement each other’s talents and perspectives, and share the same values and life philosophies. We also communicate very well – arguably the most important trait for any relationship.
She said “yes” in Santorini…
I proposed during our holiday in Santorini, Greece. Months before the trip, I connected with a restaurant in Oia, a coastal town on the northwestern tip of Santorini, informed them of my intentions, and asked if they would help me by dressing up a private terrace overlooking the caldera for a date night. They generously offered to provide a photographer and decorations as well. When we got there, I blindfolded Amanda, guided her to the terrace, and popped the question. At first, she cheekily said ‘no’ and ran away. Much to my relief, she reappeared and said ‘yes!’
