In early November, Singapore-based, award-winning director Shilpa Krishnan Shukla was wrapping up her third feature film, Tashi, starring Tania Mukherjee, Charan Singh, Anvita Gupta, Ila Maheshwari and Sai Pogaru. The film is in English and Hindi and shot entirely in Singapore.

A family drama, Tashi explores the relationship between a mother and her children who are in their 40s and how a guest and a domestic helper come into the picture. As the director puts it, “I really write stories that I feel passionately about. Being the only child, I often think about my parents as I don’t have a sibling. I find that a lot of movies focus on people when they are in their 20s or in their old age when people are shown to be quite lonely. But when you hit that mid-life, how does it work? I started off with that idea. I derive my inspiration from the scenes that I see around me and observe.”
