Winging Their Way On Wildlife Challenge
Let's Talk|April 2020
Readers will know Barry Madden as the writer of our delightful monthly Nature pages. Barry and his wife Denise are about to embark on an extraordinary year.
Barry Madden
Winging Their Way On Wildlife Challenge

His nature articles entrance us each month, connecting us to some of the beauty and wonders of our East Anglian wildlife. And in recent months, Barry Madden has introduced us to the flora and fauna of Argentina, the Falkland Islands and Brazil. His words and photos bring an insight into the natural world and inspire us to take a walk with nature ourselves.

Now Barry is about to embark on a personal challenge that will see him dig deeper into the wild and wonderful world of Norfolk and Suffolk’s birds, butterflies and moths – as well as travelling across the globe in search of even more fascinating and far-flung creatures. His challenge, WingSearch2020, has an ultimate aim too of helping to educate the region’s young people about conservation and nature.

Barry explains: “Wildlife in East Anglia, the wider UK and across the world is suffering dramatic declines in species numbers and abundance. There are many reasons for this, but a sure way to protect the environment from future harm is through education.

“Opening the eyes and ears of young people to the wonders of nature and connecting them to the natural world brings significant long-term physical, mental and emotional benefits. It is with this in mind that WingSearch2020 has been formed.”
