It’s a given that researching a good gynaecologist will take some time, but it’s essential that you find one that you are comfortable with. DR NEL shares with us the qualities of a good gynaecologist!
As a woman, you should add visiting a gynaecologist’s office to your list of medical routines. Like any other doctor’s visit, communication is key and being comfortable makes it easier to talk more freely to your doctor about any medical conditions.
What is a gynaecologist?
A gynaecologist is a medical professional that specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and care of ailments and diseases that specifically affect women. Women’s healthcare includes female babies, girls, teenagers and adult women.
A GOOD GYNAECOLOGIST SHOULD HAVE THE FOLLOWING: Qualifications, training and experience. empathy or the ability to emotionally and intellectually sense the emotions, feelings and reactions that you are experiencing and the ability to effectively communicate that understanding to you. Professionalism is vital and involves complying with a code of moral ethics so that the patient-physician boundaries are not breeched. Patience – A good gynaecologist will spend sufficient time with their patients to enable a thorough discussion of their problems. This will help them to make an accurate diagnosis, followed by correct treatment. As a patient, you shouldn’t leave your gynaecologist’s office in a dissatisfied state.
