PRESENTING HER NEW EP 'ARE WE THERE YET?'
"I love lyrics and I love a good melody and I am quite easy to please in that respect"
First of all, I want to congratulate you on your EP. What personal journey did you go through in writing ‘Are We There Yet?'
I actually wrote it a long time ago on tour. I had been through a bit of a tough time before writing it [the song] and it was sort of like I’ve arrived, I’m here, I’m feeling good now sort of thing, even though the lyrics are still tinged with a bit of sadness... That was the first happy song I had written in a long time. So that was nice.
Your lyrics are considered cryptic... Is that intentional?
There isn’t an intention. There are some songs where it is a particularly sensitive subject - some people ask me what it's about but I don’t really like to tell people that. I kind of like that it is cryptic... I think I like things that are open to interpretation so that people can try and look closer and see what they think about it and how it speaks to them.
How does it feel to you to have been likened to Laura Marling and Sharon Van Etten?
