As Maverick's Editor Holly Payne discovers, the shackles binding reality television star Megan McKenna are slowly falling away…and the world is about to see it.
My first meeting with Megan McKenna is on the set of her eagerly anticipated music video for breakout hit, High Heeled Shoes. After trudging through a muddy field in the heart of the English countryside and finally being granted clearance to the old Tennessee style backdrop (the papz are everywhere), I spot the gorgeous Country artist teasing her bulging stream of online fans with sneak previews of the ongoing shoot. Her energy is intoxicating and she gets out what she has to say first time on live streams – except Megan isn’t buying that. “Oh no, I’ve done it wrong again, one more time!”
For those unfamiliar with Megan McKenna, the sultry brunette’s first brush with celebrity came following a stint on reality television show, Ex on the Beach. Notwithstanding her fiery temper and boundless energy, Megan went onto star in The Only Way Is Essex – another UK reality show that captured Megan’s joys and heartbreaks live for the nation to witness.
It was these appearances that led Megan to fight for the inevitable – her dream of landing a major record deal in the wondrous City of Music that is Nashville and eventually to defeat Taylor Swift, knocking the megastar from the number one spot on iTunes with her debut singles.
Commissioned for a series documenting her journey from reality television star to country singer, ‘There’s Something About Megan’ showed the twenty-four year old giving it her all with a rendition of Tennessee Whiskey during one episode creating a storm on Twitter, as users flocked to express their astonishment at Megan’s ability to sing – and sing really well.
