If you are trying to get pregnant, we have some great advice from specialists to help get you on your way
You have been together for a while now. You and your partner are ready to introduce a new member to the family. Planning to have a child is the most natural thing in the world and you may think that there is nothing to it besides the few basics. However, with current lifestyles, getting pregnant may not be as simple as you would like it to be. With several external factors playing a role as well, you will want to start the process well prepared and steer clear from any major medical interference.
If you are planning to get pregnant and would like to go about it as naturally as possible, here are what the experts say that you need to do.
Start with a medical check-up
“A basic medical check-up is what is conducted for a couple hoping to conceive,” says Dr Bandita Sinha, gynaecologist and infertility specialist, World of Women, Mumbai. “To begin, we do a basic semen analysis along with a test for blood sugar and blood count of the male partner. In case we find issues in the investigation of the male partner, the female partner’s investigation is toned down. For the woman, we take a general look into her medical history and her family’s medical history. This is followed by the routine blood test and hormone tests called Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH), which are secreted by cells in developing egg sacs (follicles). Women who have crossed 30 years of age have low AMH. Knowing the fertility level of the woman gives us the right base to provide the correct advice. The fertility test is also coupled with the routine blood sugar test and a sonography test to evaluate the condition of the ovaries and the uterus.” Obviously, if all these tests have results that clear you, it means that you can go ahead and try to be pregnant.
