Beauty School: The Kitchen Beautician
Mums and Tots|Issue 29 - Winter 2018

In the past decade, the beauty industry has been transformed by an increasing demand for cleaner, healthier and more sustainably packaged beauty products.

Anita Murray, Of The Pink Beauty Group
Beauty School: The Kitchen Beautician

I am fortunate to have some of the finest beauty brands in the world to hand, but you would be surprised at how much beauty and skin products I actually still make myself ! As the saying goes: ‘if you wouldn’t eat it, then you shouldn’t put it on your skin’. The skin is your largest organ, so the products you are using, and absorbing into your system, are key components of maintaining your health and vitality. No better reason to make your own skincare, free from toxins and synthetic chemicals, than that! Learning how to make your own beauty products does not require expensive equipment or obscure ingredients - in fact you might already have all the ingredients in your kitchen.

Here are my favourites! These green beauty rituals were made for hibernating:

Squash Breakouts

For blemished skin, here is a great remedy and an easy one to whip together. Purée one butternut squash, one tablespoon of honey and two drops of tea tree oil. This mask packs a punch if you need to control breakouts or acne. The collagen-boosting squash is particularly great for older skin and the honey is naturally anti-bacterial and gives your skin a natural glow. Use this remedy once a week for a healthy glow and an even skin tone.

Everything I Avo Wanted

No brunch is complete without a side of avocado, but no skin care routine is complete without a few great avocadopacked goodies either! For dry skin, avocado is the holy grail. In addition to Vitamin E, avocado contains an abundance of potassium, lecithin and all the great omega fatty acids to nourish and moisturise the skin. The epidermis easily absorbs these nutrients which help form new skin.
