WORDS BY JANE MASON, MANAGING DIRECTOR OF THE NATURAL BIRTHING COMPANY LTD.
Bonding with your baby during pregnancy doesn’t always come naturally for everyone so don’t worry if you’re not feeling connected. It can be particularly hard in the early days when you might not be feeling your best and you don’t have a bump yet. It can take a while to get your head round things. I think that’s why Mother Nature gives us 9months!
Bonding with your baby brings comfort to them and helps you to prepare for being their mummy, here are some ideas to help you make that bond with your little one:
Give baby a name
When you don’t know the sex of your baby you can feel a bit awkward referring to them as “it”, so instead use “they” and consider giving them a nickname whilst they’re in the womb. Some examples I’ve heard are “peanut” or “pickle” but choose your own.
