She has built a reputation as one of the most trusted faces on Australian television. But with recent news that high-profile Channel Seven star Melissa Doyle is leaving the network after 25 years, rival networks are now fighting to snap her up.
Nine Network is said to be pulling out all the stops to sign Mel, 50, in what is rumoured to be a multimillion-dollar deal. And in a surprising move, Mel, who helped transform Sunrise into a TV juggernaut in her time as co-host, is poised to make her long-awaited return to breakfast television at Sunrise’s bitter rival, the Today show.
“Mel is going back to brekkie TV,” a source tells New Idea. “It’s a good move as she knows how to do it.”
But there may be one person standing in the way of Mel’s triumphant TV return at Nine – Karl Stefanovic.
