CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE IS THE LEADING KILLER OF AUSSIE WOMEN
Know the risks! WOMEN'S HEART HEALTH

Around 45 per cent of all deaths from heart attacks happen to women. But tragically, the warning signs are more likely to be missed.

“From prevention to diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care, women often fare worse than men when it comes to heart disease,” says Natalie Raffoul, from the Heart Foundation. “Women are regularly confronted by stereotypes, including that heart disease only affects older men, or that chest pain is the only warning sign of an attack.”

TALK TO YOUR GP

“Our first message is that women should see their GP for a Heart Health Check,” Natalie says.

Checks are subsidised for those over 45, or for Indigenous Australians aged over 30.
