In these contact-conscious times, Hermès’ Lignes Sensibles high jewellery collection is a call for self-love, says Crystal Lee.

Pierre Hardy hits a raw nerve with Hermès’ newest chapter, Lignes Sensibles – that the pandemic has, among many other things, robbed us of the human touch. The creative director of Hermès jewellery states his mission plainly: “The entire collection is oriented towards intimacy.” Since physical contact with others is absent, Hardy is choosing to go within, extending an invitation by way of jewels to deepen the relationship with oneself.

His starting point for inspiration is the stethoscope, used by doctors to listen to the sounds and vibrations within the body. “I have tried to mark the passage between the interior and the exterior. The pieces of jewellery that I create are like small organs that emit sounds,” explains Hardy. “They are subtle pulsations that form a connection with the invisible. I wanted to transcribe these interior areas, to sketch their design on the skin. I see these lines as radiating out from them.”
