The L’Oréal ID artist, who is also the owner of Ellora Salons, Karan Deol is one focused hairstylist. He has grabbed every opportunity to learn and be educated in the line of hairstyling. He shares his journey with Salon India
How did you get started in the hairstyling industry?
It all started at an early age, after I passed out from high school. My elder brother who was doing a degree with Headmasters Australia asked me to join him. Just about the same time, L’Oréal’s opened their first international academy in Mumbai and I went to study hair there. The only thing I knew was that whatever field I chose, it had to be in with fashion, art or creativity.
Please tell us about your professional background - the certificates and degrees you have earned.
After completing my Diploma with L’Oréal, I kept practicing what I had learnt for an in-depth understanding of hairdressing. I have earned several certificates from Bertram, Toni&Guy, Jo Hansford and Lauren Decreton. In between all of this, I also went to Australia, to train with Biba Academy, and worked with the Linear Chain of Salons to gain international experience, to help me in the foundation years, and stand in good stead.
Who inspired you to get into the hair industry? Did you have a mentor? It was my brother and father who made me enter this amazing ever growing industry. I feel it is important to look up to someone whom you admire as a mentor and for me it is Trevor Sorbie, as he is more than just a hairdresser! His journey is so inspiring!
