The small town of Flam amid the picturesque fjords of Norway is poised to bring in big footfalls this year. Bengt Hammer, sales and key account manager of Asia & Oceania at Visit Flam, provides an insight.
What was the idea behind the Explore Scandinavia event held in India in November last year and what did it set out to achieve?
The idea and purpose of the Explore Scandinavia event held across three cities in India—Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai— were to display Scandinavia as a future tourism market for Indians to the Indian travel media and travel trade.
What was different and new about the ninth edition of this event as compared to its previous editions in India?
I’ve been attending the Explore Scandinavia event since the very first seminar in India in 2009. Back then, there were only a handful of Scandinavian partners and very little knowledge about Scandinavia and Norway as outbound tourism market among the Indian travel trade and tourists. It now feels great to establish that the number of Scandinavian partners this year was five times more than in the beginning, and knowledge and actual agents and tour operators promoting and selling Scandinavia and our leisure products have increased a lot year by year.
