Who would have thought, even about five years back, that kabaddi would reemerge as such a promising force in the country? The sport, which was once extremely popular in India, had almost faded away into oblivion these past two decades from the public’s mind. And then, the Pro Kabaddi League happened. It has revolutionized the sport in India again and people are actually relishing it heartily.

Now, the fourth season of the Pro Kabaddi League is all set to be played from June to July. The league, which has had tremendous success ever since its commencement, has now increased its volume to two seasons a year rather than the solitary one we had seen thus far. Incidentally, this is the first time a sporting league will have two seasons in a calendar year. “Unlike cricket and football, in case of kabaddi, fans have limited opportunities to engage with the live sport. So, we decided to have the league twice a year,” said Nitin Kukreja, president and head, sports, Star India to a news website recently.

The move seems to be quite prudent. With the interest and excitement the league has generated, this is about the right time to give the fans more of it; especially because the month of June and July will be quite mild for Indian cricket. Hence, it would be fascinating to observe how fans take to another season of the kabaddi league in less than six months time. This is definitely an interesting experiment and, if it works, will be great news for kabaddi in India.

For now, let us have a brief look at all the teams in the league and what they have to offer for the season.
