The only caveat is you have to purchase additional hardware - speaker or a headphone to use Alexa. What if you want to use with your existing audio setup at home? Enter Echo Input.This 79g nifty device is tiny and has a really simple, no-frills design. The ice hockey puck-shaped Echo Input can be tucked away nicely in a corner. The side features a micro USB port and a 3.5mm aux port while the top has the usual Alexa speaker layout consisting of a small LED, Alexa button, mic on/off and four mics. Both cables, micro USB and 3.5mm aux are bundled in the retail pack along with the 5W power adapter that is required to power the device.Since Echo Input does not come with any built-in speaker, the first step is to pair it with a speaker of your choice and then just follow the on-screen instructions on the Alexa app. Connecting it with a 3.5mm aux cable is the easiest way to connect but Echo Input also allows to pair the speaker via Bluetooth. Amazon recommends the minimum distance between Echo Input and the speaker should be 15cm for speakers connected with aux or a metre away if you&rsquo;re connected via Bluetooth. This is most likely to minimise interference from the audio coming out of the connected speaker. Good thing about Echo Input is that it will push a notification on your mobile device in case, no audio is coming out after Alexa&rsquo;s commands.The four mics pick up audio well in a medium-sized room and allows the user to do everything that you&rsquo;d do with other Amazon Alexa devices. That said, there are a couple of issues that can possibly hamper the overall Alexa experience. Some speakers automatically turn off to save on power if there&rsquo;s no audio coming out for some time, which is why, Amazon recommends to turn off the power saving feature on the speakers to avoid this. Secondly, Echo Input can&rsquo;t control speaker volume. It comes with its own volume that can be controlled via voice but if someone has turned down the speaker volume, no command can turn the volume up unless you do it physically on the speaker.Having said that, Echo Input is a nice affordable device that acts as a gateway for users to enjoy Alexa services with their choice of speakers and hopefully, upgrade to Amazon&rsquo;s fully-blown Echo lineup that offers a lot more.
