ROG Strix GL503 is the latest product that&nbsp;was announced a few weeks back and this month we take an in-depth look to see if it&rsquo;s worth the mettle.Right from the onset, GL503 looks and shouts a gaming laptop. While it&rsquo;s not a bad thing but the colour combination of black or gray and a red at the back of the display lid looks overused for gaming laptops. The 23mm width and 2.5kg weight ensure portability for gaming-on-the-go.Opening the laptop lid reveals GL503&rsquo;s 15-inch Full HD anti-glare display. The screen quality is good that uses an IPS panel, supports 60Hz refresh rate and up to 300 nits of brightness. However, it&rsquo;s the RGB keyboard that steals the show. The multi-colour keyboard makes the laptop stand out in a sea of gaming laptops. The Aura app allows users to customise the backlight&rsquo;s brightness, colours and lighting effects. The keys are well spaced out and even supports anti-ghosting with n-key rollover.The ROG Strix GL503 is powered by Intel&rsquo;s Kaby Lake Core i7 processor, 8GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 GPU and 128GB M.2 SSD along with 1TB HDD. The RAM and GPU can be bumped up to 32GB of RAM and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 GPU. Connectivity-wise, the laptop sports a USB 3.0 Type-C, USB 2.0/3.0, HDMI, mini DisplayPort, Ethernet, card reader, 802.11ac 2X2 Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.1.On the performance front, the laptop is more than capable of handling modern games at high resolution and with the GTX 1060 GPU, the laptop can handle VR applications as well.It also features amplifier technology that helps to deliver in-game audio at higher volume and comes with an intelligent cooling design with 2 fans taking care of CPU and GPU. The 12V run at 4200RPM, which could be a bit noisy and distracting while gaming.GL503 runs Windows 10 and comes with pre-installed software to enhance the gaming experience. For instance, it comes with ROG Gaming Center that allows to fine-tune the hardware to squeeze out the best possible settings for a game and ROG GameFirst IV to prioritise bandwidth. Additionally, audio optimisations include Sonic Studio to help with in-game noise cancellation and voice-volume&nbsp;stabilisation whereas Sonic Radar overlays relative position of sound coming from the game like gunshots, footsteps to aid the user.Overall, the GL503 offers a decent gaming experience with software enhancements and good hardware. However, if you can spend, the one with GTX 1060 is a better buy since it offers VR support and overall, a much better computing and gaming experience.
