For all their fame and success in other media, Messrs Holmes and Watson have never solved the mystery of how to make a great videogame. Yet from the PC-only point-and-clickers to the more-recent Unreal Engine powered incarnations, the Conan Doyle creation has built up a peculiar cult following in gaming form – this despite it comprising a cabal of wholly unremarkable affairs whose clunky dialogue and robotic animations somehow conjure an abject sense of goodwill because, “Hey, at least you get to be a high-functioning sociopath for six hours.”
