Such excitement this month: Apple had one of its (socially distanced and Covid secure) events! These are like the big classic rock concerts of tech, by which I mean they are popular with old guys and the merch is real expensive.
Apple is rather like the Rolling Stones of tech, as people still love them even though they look a little less steady on their feet than they used to. They know to play all the big hits to keep the faithful happy and this time out they excelled themselves by having a new range of iMacs in different colours.
This was a smart move on several levels: things that are colourful look exciting and nice, so that’s a win straight off. But it was also an obvious call-back to the original iMac, which also came in numerous tasteful – and not so tasteful – hues. I had a ‘Strawberry’ one with a DVD player, which Apple actually marketed at the time as a kind of ‘home cinema’. This was one of the only home cinema systems with a 13.8-inch, 720p screen that I’ve come across. Nice computer though.
