Delicious and healthy, the orange is loaded with essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals.
Very few fruits can boast of a colour being named after them. But the orange is extraordinary. A hybrid of the pomelo and the mandarin, it has a flamboyant and eye-catching hue that immediately lifts up your spirits. Originally from China, the fruit derives its name from the ancient Persian word narang, which comes from the Sanskrit word naranga. Ancient Persian Emperors are said to have collected exotic trees – including the orange tree – for their landscaped gardens. The Arabs later traded the fruit and spread word of its wonders as far as Moorish Spain. The Spanish called it naranja. When it reached France, it became orenge, and this was adopted into Middle English, and eventually evolved into ‘orange’ – the colour and the fruit.
