Tiers Of Happiness!

Roger Lait and the HFT Masters crew try to whippet into shape at the Greyhound.

Tiers Of Happiness!

The Greyhound is a rather nice place to have a shoot. It has everything you could ever want; elevated shots, hidden shots, and a tricky little wind that just pulls you from pillar to post. I have shot there a good few times over the years and, to be honest, it seems that it has its own little wind pixies. The wind comes from left to right … you aim to the left … the pellet goes further left. When Ian suggested we hold an HFT Masters at the Greyhound last year, I froze because I knew how difficult it can be there and I was suitably worried, but last year’s event was great fun and we learned lots, so on to this year.

DIFFERENT

Ian decided to use a different part of the ground, as he does. Not happy with the normal firing line? No, no that would be far too easy, so off he went into the woods, and after much hacking and, of course, the obligatory swearing, the firing line was out. Pegs one to five were in the normal place, and then it got difficult.

I know that Ian does not like the expression ‘range trap’, but that is exactly what he does. Is that target 35 or 45 yards? I wonder if I should take out a crystal ball because I get caught out all the time with his courses. It’s all there to be shot, but at what range?

He then went for the elevated shots. Now, these can be as hard as anything to range, because you then have to factor in the added wind … is it there, or not? Again, I have been caught out so many times giving wind to a target right at the top of a tree, only to find that I needed nothing. The Greyhound has plenty of scope for putting targets way up trees and baffling you with the range, too.
