Before the actual fight, Golovkin and Canelo will have to win the battle in their own minds.
BEFORE any fight, not just a super fight like this one, the thoughts that race through a fighter’s mind literally one after another, day and night, are constant and sometimes unexplainable.
‘Am I ready? Did I train hard enough? Does this guy hit too hard? Did that ice cream I ate after training one night last week add extra pounds? Should I run to get the extra weight off? Are his supporters right about me? Do I really belong here?’
‘I’m going to knock this guy out. Brutally.’
Ultimately, each guy just hopes and prays that he will be able to show all the skills and technique that he has in him. I believe fear of not performing to the best of your ability is as much of a thought as actually losing is.
Boxers want to win, but as performers they also want to look great as well.
