Each of us has a unique perception as to how and when bodybuilding truly began.

The Maryland Muscle Machine ‘Is Back'

Much of this depends on the era in which we were born. Throughout the ages the idols that inspired us to enter the monstrous world of muscle have changed and developed, but never been forgotten.

Back in the early years when Ben and Joe Weider first caught a glimpse into the world of super-sixed muscle that was fast becoming a worldwide fascination, they knew that legends would be made, but never forgotten. And not only were legends made, but freaky lifters secured their places as household names all over the globe.

Bodybuilding began to not only inspire, but to change lives- not just for short periods of time, but for decades to come.

For me, it was the nineties that really hit home. This was when, in my opinion, bodybuilders changed the world’s perception of freaky muscle. Almost every competitive person in bodybuilding will probably tell you it was an Arnie movie that first inspired them as an impressionable young child. Then, once they researched the very roots of bodybuilding, they’d be in awe of the classic symmetrical looks of the elitists at that time, like Dorian Yates and Flex Wheeler and the genetically blessed like Kevin Levrone.

Where it all Began for Levrone

Kevin’s journey began in 1991, when he was up against what was arguably the most prestigious class ever in bodybuilding.
