With shooting features and attending several open days, it’s been another packed month for Richard Shenton.
As I left you last month I was heading to Walthamstow Reservoirs for three days to compete in the 2017 Hauling for Cancer charity event.
Following a very frustrating start I finally managed to get among the fish. However, this was to be short-lived because, due to unforeseen circumstances, my partner for the match had to retire early. Unfortunately, this put an end to my success, but things happen.
I didn’t have long to dwell on it because the following day saw me trundling down the motorway, heading home to prepare for several features, deadline and a number of open days.
First on the agenda was this year’s open day at the famous Linear complex in Oxford, with visitors travelling from far and wide to see what all the fuss is about. This event was host to several companies, with Shimano showcasing its casting academy, which proved to be a huge success throughout the day. With so many companies present it would be a missed opportunity to not grab a feature with at least one, so with this in mind I planned to shoot a tuition feature with Andy Ormrod from Aqua and Improve Your Fishing.
Because the feature wasn’t until Sunday I decided to get the rods out and join them on Hardwick and Smith’s the Saturday night to try and nick a bite while having a bit of a social. With a food box loaded with barbecue meat courtesy of Anton from the Hungry Carper, I made my way around the lake to greet the lads from Aqua who were residing in a well known swim called Christmas Tree.
After what had been an extremely busy day I was looking forward to tucking into some well deserved food but, as always, I was keen to get the rods out first.
Following a brief discussion with the guys I opted to fish to the rear of the swim, flicking a bare lead out.
