BEFORE heading off to spend a night in Lough Eske Castle in Donegal, I did a little bit of light research online.
Having never been to the hotel and spa, which is part of the Solis group, I was eager to find out a little bit about the venue.
Words such as ‘marvellous’, ‘splendid’, ‘grand’ and ‘sleek’ all jumped out at me as I scrolled down the screen.
During my ‘research’ I also noticed that Sarah Jessica Parker (of Sex and the City fame) and her husband Matthew Broderick dined in the five star hotel’s restaurant a few years ago.
After finding this out I was excited about our stay.
After all, if it’s good enough for SJP then it’s good enough for me!
As we set off on our journey to Donegal, my husband and I didn’t let the rain dampen our spirits.
As we pulled in off the main road and made our way along the long, winding driveway to the castle, sunshine beat down on the lake which could be seen through the gaps in the trees lining each side of the road.
I couldn’t help but notice numerous forest trails suitable for walkers as we approached the hotel car park.
After parking up, we grabbed our luggage and made our way to the hotel entrance via the courtyard.
As we marvelled at the grandness of the castle itself, it was only when we approached the front of the building that we were able to take it all in.
We were seriously impressed by both the castle and its grounds and were really keen to get a look inside.
