Stute Singing in the Rain

WHAT a vital point this could prove to be for Institute in the race for a play-off spot.

Wind and rain battered the Riverside Stadium as the Blues welcomed the side one above them in the league table.

With ‘Stute having a game in hand over their opponents they knew that a win would be a massive step towards securing that elusive play-off spot, but in the end manager Kevin Deery was happy to settle for a draw after coming from two down.

“It was a difficult first half but we knew they were going to come after us because we’ve met them a few times. I thought in the first fifteen minutes we probably did start alright and we got down the sides of them a bit. Jamie McIntyre got great joy but after that they took over for 20 minutes or so and they scored the two goals.

“The goal before half-time helped us. To be honest I was ready to make two changes at the break because we just couldn’t get in behind them enough. The goal changed it a bit. The boys knew we were out battled – there’s no other word for it. The pitch didn’t set up for anything else,” admitted Deery.

“We addressed it and told them we had to match them and give a bit more. We scored a good goal and could have had another one or two but it was a great, honest game. Both teams had a go at one another and it was a great point that keeps us going in the run we’re trying to have after the split.”
