The game went into overtime after senior Aidan Stearns blasted a shot from beyond the 18-yard box, into the upper corner of the goal to equalize the game at 1-1 with two minutes left in the second half. That goal sent the game into overtime when senior Nate Mason slid the ball past the Raider goalkeeper to lift his team to victory.
The Eagles had to battle back from a 0-1 deficit after the Raiders scored with 7:25 to go in the first half.
Though Washington Academy took the early lead, the two teams were evenly matched, something head coach Mark Ensworth was prepared for going into the quarterfinal contest.
“They are tough. We knew what they wanted to do and they knew what we wanted to do. It just came down to which team would execute the opportunities they got,” said Ensworth.
