Danny Pryer Talks To Former Manchester City Striker Adie Mike About His Football Career And Life After Hanging Up His Boots...
NOWADAYS, they say a footballer’s career is short but wealthy and that retirement is plain sailing, but former Manchester City striker Adie Mike found life was up in the air after his playing days.
The now director at Falcona Private Jets swapped pitches for planes via personal training and law school, after a switch from City to lower league Doncaster Rovers via Stockport made the academy product think twice about the thing he’d wished for as a boy.
It’s a quarter of a century since he pulled on the sky blue shirt in the top flight.
But fast forward to 2018, he’s now providing a ‘plane’ sailing service, on a top flight – in blue skies.
The 44-year old, who grew up a stone’s throw away from City’s old Maine Road home, said: “Playing for Doncaster then was an eye-opener, but it did make me think more about my long-term future,
“If anything, it prepared me better for life outside of football as I had to look after myself. At bigger clubs, they looked after you and did things for you.
“I knew that I wouldn’t be able to continue being a personal trainer after ten years due to having a full hip replacement so decided a law degree would cover most bases in securing a decent job.
“I’ve been a director at Falcona for around five years now, organising flights for business people, footballers and wealthy individuals.”
Growing up, Mike wore the blue of City whilst watching from the stands in support. Not just personal, but family pride came into the frame when assessing the joy of playing for his home-town club.
