THERE are plenty of reasons why it’s virtually impossible not to take notice of Wolves right now.
For one, they’re second in the Championship, having won seven of their first 11 league games under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
There’s also no forgetting that a squad resembling a veritable league of nations assembled under the ownership of Chinese conglomerate Fosun International was bolstered with the capture of Portuguese starlet Ruben Neves in July.
The 20-year-old midfielder’s arrival from Porto – a Championship-record £15.8m deal brokered by ‘super-agent’ Jorge Mendes, who counts ex-Porto boss Nuno as his first-ever client – sent shockwaves up the hierarchy of English football, with Neves previously linked to the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal.
But skipper Danny Batth, who made his 200th appearance for Wolves in last weekend’s 4-0 trouncing of Burton, sees no reason why his club should be ashamed of such a statement of ambition.
