The Bluebirds boss admits he was “massively” surprised at the National League’s decision to continue playing games in light of the Covid-19 outbreak.
As it happened, the league leaders’ game with Wrexham was postponed because their opponents had players with symptoms and it looks likely the season will have to be paused soon anyway when the government announce the next steps for dealing with the worldwide pandemic.
The National League chose not to follow the lead of the Premier League and EFL of suspending their competition until at least April 3, and Evatt felt player safety should have been considered more highly.
“Finances are a huge part of the game at our level, clubs run hand-to-mouth so they need gates to be sustainable – I get it,” Evatt told The NLP.
