Missile drill targets waters around Taiwan

Taiwan accused China of acting like North Korean tyrant Kim Jong-un yesterday, as Beijing launched a barrage of missiles around the island.

The sea and air blockade was “following the example” of Pyongyang’s supreme leader, who has fired rockets near other nations, Taipei said.

In a huge escalation of tensions, nearly two dozen Chinese fighter jets entered Taiwan’s air defence zone and 10 navy vessels crossed the informal dividing line in the Taiwan Strait.

The action followed US Congress speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan on Tuesday and Wednesday.
