An elderly couple were feeling out of this world when a collection of Star Wars toys left to them by a neighbour sold for £400,000.

The pair had no idea of the value of the treasure trove of plastic figures and spacecraft which had been bequeathed to them by Peter Simpson, who died last December.

It was only when their son invited an expert to their home that they discovered they were sitting on one of the best Star Wars collections on the planet.

Specialist Chris Aston, of Aston’s Auctioneers, said he found dozens of bin bags filled with hundreds of items.
