Essex recorded a crushing 195-run win over the hapless Durham with a day to spare in a Group 1 encounter of the County Championship concluded at Chester. This was their third outright win of the Championship, and they top the table closely followed by Nottinghamshire who are confronting Warwickshire.
Meanwhile, Group 2 table leaders Gloucestershire with four outright wins under their belt are in dire straits as Surrey had them in a spot of bother and look set to record their second outright win while Lancashire the Group 3 leaders has so dominated proceedings against Yorkshire when play ended on day three at Manchester.
