THE Queen has cancelled her traditional Christmas at Sandringham and will stay in Windsor, as the Omicron variant rages.

But the 95-year-old's decisive move was in sharp contrast to Boris Johnson's dithering after he left millions in the dark over new restrictions.

The PM did not impose Christmas curbs but insiders admitted informal guidance may come in. Tougher rules could be here before New Year.

Royal sources said Her Majesty made the “personal choice” to give Sandringham a miss.

One added: “The Queen always leads from the front on such matters and felt with the coronavirus situation as it is in the UK that a sensible approach would be to stay at Windsor.
