Cash For Labour Is Poor Value And It's Up For Grabs

New GMB leader Gary Smith has said donations to Labour will be reviewed as Keir Starmer faces up to a crucial by-election.

Smith said the funding did not provide value for money and pledged to examine the union’s formal link with Labour.

He said: “Bluntly, it is Keir Starmer’s problem to sort out the Labour party, not ours.”

Labour is facing a huge battle to hold the Batley and Spen constituency after a by-election was called in the Yorkshire seat.

The party trails the Tories in UK-wide polls and Starmer’s internal critics believe another loss could prove fatal for Starmer’s leadership.

Speaking to the Record, Smith, who was elected to the top job in the GMB a few weeks ago, made clear his priority is industrial relations rather than politics.
