Whisky Chiefs In Plea To Chancellor: Do Your Duty And Axe Dram Tax Hike

Whisky bosses have launched a campaign calling on the UK Government to reverse the decision to increase duty by 10.1 per cent from August.

The Scotch Whisky Association will ask the government to uphold the pledge made to the industry in 2019 to "ensure the tax system is supporting Scottish whisky".

Since that promise was made, the tax burden on the average priced bottle of whisky has risen from 70 per cent to 75 per cent, and the tax gap between spirits and other alcohol types has widened.
