England have gone full circle by calling on their T20 king Dawid Malan to come and end their Test match batting woes.
Three years after his last Test appearance, Malan has been plucked from a successful stint in the Hundred and will be asked to bat at No.3 against India at Headingley next week.
With opener Dom Sibley axed from the squad along with Zak Crawley, Haseeb Hameed will move up to his more familiar role as opener.
It caps a stunning turnaround for Malan, who is currently the No.1 T20 batsman in the world, but last played a first-class game 12 weeks ago for Yorkshire, when he scored 199.
Malan, 33, scored a century in England’s last away defeat in Australia but was soon dumped – and told by ex-national selector Ed Smith he’d be more suited to overseas conditions after 15 Test appearances.
