NEW DELHI
On the biggest day of election cycle since the Lok Sabha polls in 2019, voting was registered in 475 of the total 824 assembly constituencies across the states of West Bengal, Assam, Kerala and Tamil Nadu and the Union territory of Puducherry on Tuesday.
West Bengal, which is voting in its third phase, will have five more rounds of polling.
The third and final phase of the Assam election witnessed a voter turnout of 78.29 per cent till 5:20 pm on Tuesday, the Election Commission said.
At 5 pm, the polling percentage recorded in the following states is — Assam (78.94%), Kerala (69.95%), Tamil Nadu (63.47%), West Bengal (77.68%), and Puducherry (77.90%).
In Bengal, the Election Commission suspended a sector officer ater three EVMs and four VVPAT machines were found at TMC leader Goutam Ghosh’s residence.
Meanwhile, the TMC has accused BJP workers of chasing and hurting party leader Sujata Mondal near a polling booth and urged the EC to take cognisance of the issue.
South Salmara district registered the highest voter turnout with 88.59 per cent polling, while Kamrup Metro witnessed the lowest voter turnout with 60.34 per cent polling.
