The spread of COVID-19 cases has taken a huge leap in India, with 10,000 additional infections reported within four days.
It had taken India nearly a month and a half to discover the first 10,000 cases, but the surge from 40,000 to 50,000 cases has taken just four days.
The tally in India crossed the 52,000-mark on Thursday, while the death toll headed towards 1,800. The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country stood at 52,952, with 3,561 positive cases and 89 deaths reported since Wednesday.
Of the total cases, 35,902 are active. The data by the Health Ministry showed that 15,266 individuals have been cured and discharged from hospitals. Death toll has mounted to 1,783 while one person has migrated to another country.
The city of Mumbai alone contributed over 10,000 cases.
India stands 14th in COVID-19 cases globally. Within the country, seven states have 3,000 or more cases - Maharashtra, Gujarat, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.
These together add up to more than 43,000 of the 52,800 cases in the country - more than 80 per cent of the entire caseload.
