It was a fitting conclusion to the 21st Fazza Championship for Youlah. In the presence of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, the Meydan Grand Knight, Mohammed Abdullah Bin Dalmook, was conferred winner of the 21st Fazza Championship for Youlah on Friday at Dubai Global Village.
Bin Dalmook, who showed his skills and mastery of Emirati traditional sports, including horse and camel riding, Saktoun rifle shooting and Youlah, was awarded the Fazza Gold Cup and also took home the grand prize of Dhs1 million. He bested Mohammed Salem Bin Daghash Al Ameri, who finished as this year’s first runner-up.
Youlah, the annual competition promoting UAE’s intangible cultural heritage sport, is organised by the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Center (HHC). This year, the Yuweels (competitors) were not only tested of their skills in Youlah. Aside from showing their skills in the traditional folk performance while spinning the rifle and tossing it in the air to 20 metres, the Yuweels were also tested with their skills in horse and camel riding, Saktoun rifle shooting, and traditional poetry.
