A couple whose wedding was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic were stunned when their neighbours staged an alternative street ceremony to mark the occasion.
Sadhlog Ni Chualain was due to marry Tom Sweeney at St James’ Church in Bushypark, Galway, at the weekend.
More than 170 guests were set to attend the reception in Glenlo Abbey Hotel but the couple were left with little choice but to shelve the plans as restrictions kicked in.
Their neighbours at Canal Court in one of the oldest areas in the city centre staged a surprise ceremony and party while at the same time adhering to social distancing and other restrictions.
Midwife Sadhlog said: “We got a hint something was happening when one of our neighbours, sixyear-old Cillian McLoughlin, put an invitation in the postbox on Thursday asking us to a garden party on Saturday.
“We have wonderful neighbours here and on Canal Road where we have been living for the past three years.
“We have a rescue dog Johnjoe who everyone in the neighbourhood knows and we have got to know them all through him.
