A Former Irish Paralympian found guilty of being a public nuisance for glueing himself to the roof of a plane said yesterday: “I had to do something spectacular.”
Extinction Rebellion activist James Brown said he was “gutted” at being convicted.
But he added: “I guess it is the price you pay for taking a risk, it could’ve gone the other way.
“I knew that a conviction was a possibility, of course, I knew that.
“What I did was only a very small part. There are a lot of people giving up a lot to make a difference and I’m only one.”
Earlier, the 56-year-old, who is registered blind, urged jurors at Southwark Crown Court to acquit him of the charge. He added: “I believe the impact of a not guilty verdict, in this case, would be highly significant.”
