This smouldering wreck of a Russian warplane sums up how Putin’s invasion has itself come crashing down in flames.

His military has lost an astonishing 11,000 soldiers, sailors and airmen by Day 11 of the invasion, say Ukraine’s commanders.

This has been a huge blow to Moscow, which is now calling up reserves. Ukraine’s well-hidden air defences have downed 44 warplanes along with 48 attack and troop carrier helicopters.

On the ground, Russia’s ill-prepared forces met ferocious resistance from well-trained troops and defiant citizen warriors.
