With the game on the line, the Harlequins boy wonder made no mistake from 30 metres out, to deliver a hard-fought triumph which rounded off an unbeaten autumn for Eddie Jones' rejuvenated side.

The victory made it three wins out of three and sent his new-look team - and 82,000 spectators - away from the stadium convinced that things are back on track.

"Our stated aim is to win the World Cup," said Jones. "That win will give the players a lot of confidence. We are happy to knock off the best team in the world.

"We needed to regenerate and have a bit of a rebirth.
