- Champion golfer, 27, killed in double stabbing
- 75-yr-old badly wounded ...suspect ‘known to both’
A YOUNG man was killed and his father seriously injured after a horror double stabbing.
Shane Murphy, 27, was pronounced dead at his home in Carrigaline, Co Cork, while his father Patrick, 75, was taken to hospital with serious injuries following the attack in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Emergency services rushed to the house in the Sea View estate, but despite their desperate efforts, Shane passed away.
Patrick, known locally as Weeshie, was taken to Cork University Hospital where his condition was described as “serious”.
A suspect who is known to both men was arrested shortly after and taken to Gurranbraher Garda Station on the north side of Cork.
It is understood Shane was stabbed in the chest. His body remained at the scene through Saturday morning.
He was transferred to CUH at around 11.30 am, where Assistant State Pathologist Dr. Margot Bolster is set to carry out a postmortem.
The Garda forensics team remained at the scene through the day and it is understood the knife believed to have been used was recovered.
"You always see things in the news; today I realized it’s only a few doors down"
Tributes have been pouring in for talented golfer Shane, who won multiple pitch and putt competitions and was an All-Ireland champion.
